Sonia Walwyn

Sonia Walwyn is one of the nation’s leading authorities on Unclaimed Property. As an industry veteran of more than 30 years, Sonia oversees Clarus Partners’ unclaimed property advisory and compliance practice. Her work includes audit defense, voluntary disclosures, exposure analysis, annual compliance, and unclaimed property process improvement/development. Sonia has been a frequent speaker on the subject of abandoned and unclaimed property for various industry groups including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Tax Executive Institute and the Unclaimed Property Professional Organization (UPPO), where she served as chairperson of the bylaws and ethics committees. She has also authored articles on the subject for industry journals such as the Journal of Accountancy. Sonia was a Director with Duff & Phelps, LLC. Earlier in her career, she also served as Deputy Treasurer/Deputy General Counsel to the Pennsylvania State Treasurer with responsibility for audit and legal enforcement of Pennsylvania’s unclaimed property law. Sonia earned an LLM in Taxation from the Villanova School of Law, a J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law, holds a B.S. in accounting and is a CPA in both the states of Illinois and Pennsylvania.
