Driver’s license requirement for filing individual tax returns

New for 2016 – Please send a copy of your driver’s license along with your tax documents this year.  The state of Ohio is requiring driver’s license information for e-file.  Please see the following excerpt from the Ohio Department of Taxation:

Ohio, along with other states, will require driver’s license information for the primary taxpayer and spouse (if Married Filing Jointly) beginning in tax year 2016 in an effort to combat stolen-identity tax fraud. Taxpayers will be asked to provide the information from their driver’s license or state issued identification card. For taxpayers who do not have a driver’s license or state ID card, they will have the option to indicate such and still be allowed to e-file.

We’ll have to include the following information with your tax filing:  license number, state of issuance, date of issuance and renewal date.  Please be careful to send the information in a secure format – as a paper copy, or through our portal, or even by text or over the phone.

We know this is one more burden for you, and us, at tax time.  We look forward to working with you to make it go as smoothly as possible.

Thank you – Clarus Partners
